Karen Palevsky is a Career Counselor and Professional Resume Writer with particular expertise in career development and transition, resume/CV/bio and cover letter writing, job search planning and implementation, and interview coaching. Karen manages a private practice with a diverse client base including recent college graduates, early career, and middle and senior level professionals and managers. She was also a senior career and outplacement consultant for Lee Hecht Harrison, a global career transition /management firm, and an adjunct lecturer with New York University, for many years.
Karen employs a strategic, hands-on, and practical approach in working with clients. An empathetic and supportive professional, she is also sensitive to personal issues that may be impacting or presenting barriers to an individual’s career choices and job search. Her comprehensive knowledge of the world of work and career opportunities has been acquired through employment in the private, nonprofit, and public sectors. This experience includes career and outplacement counseling, human resources management, and executive search.
Throughout her career, Karen has developed and delivered career management workshops on a diversity of topics including “Resume Strategies for Career Transitions”, “Job Search After 50”, “From Diapers to Databases – Transitioning Back to Work”, “Effective Job Search Strategies”, “Networking Do’s and Don’ts”, and led a job search strategy group for recent college grads and young professionals at the NYPL Science, Industry, and Business branch. She has been featured in articles in the New York Times, Time Out New York, and on NPR (National Public Radio), and has written articles and had resumes published in trade magazines and books (“Expert Resumes for Baby Boomers”, JIST Publications).
Karen holds a Master of Arts degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling and a Certificate in Adult Career Planning and Development, both from New York University. Karen previously held a leadership role in the Career Counselors Consortium where she sat on the Board of Directors and served as its Corporate Secretary. She is also a member of the American Counseling Association, and the Career Development Specialists Network.
